On our way back from Rara Avis we stayed at the lovely B&B. The owner Alex took us to his animal sanctuary for a spot of birding. Alex's car was knackered and his son was off in the van guiding in Panama so we got a taxi to the bottom of the hill where we could pick up the non MOTable orange Jeep.
The Jeep was being watched over by a good assortment of dogs
Alex in the Jeep, that apparently the ladies loved!
A quick birding stop on the way. Jim, the english birder from Rara avis, also came along as we had told him about our fantastic encounter with the green macaws at Alex's B&B. We saw several new species with Alex's expert help.
The grounds of the sanctuary are fairly small, at the moment he has one orphaned white faced capuchin and a green macaw that had been illegally taken from the nest as a pet and had its wings clipped.
We never got this close to the wild ones - see what I mean about the fantastic colours
The dogs (the big one was a little crazy) liked to play with the capuchin which was so fast and nimble they could never catch it.
Not a bad view from Alex's new house
Zena warrior princess - this fancy jewellery is actually seed pods
The land on the sanctuary had been a palm plantation, Alex was reverting the land back to forest
The macaw was not keen on sharing his food with the capuchin and tried to bite his fingers whenever he got near.
The aviary is still under construction (the concrete bit to the right)
The orphaned monkey
more monkey business
In the bus ticket queue in Sarapiqui, next destination La Fortuna near Volcano Arenal a bit further north.
