surf and rescue

In Puerto Viejo met up with Jessica our pal from the sloth sanctuary who had stayed an extra week as 'poo lady' responsible for all the baby sloths while Claire was on holiday.  She told us all the goings on since we'd left only a week ago (non-poo related)...there had been lots of gossip.  Here we are at an all you can eat Mexican buffet .....yum.

This dog had an embarrassing haircut, the owners had cut his tail like a bog brush - you can see it doesn't look that pleased about it

There was a Jaguar Rescue Centre in Puerto Viejo which someone recommended we visit as they have been able to release animals they have treated back to the wild, including some sloths.  They also let their sloths climb outside on specially grown hedges (above).

Fiona wasn't keen on the live food for the snake collection.

This hand reared deer was having a funny five minutes and kept tapping its foot in a pond and jumping at the splash of water like a dog then bolting round in circles.

These poor birds of prey couldn't fly, one had broken its wing in a car accident and one had had its wings cut really short by some stupid person wanting it as a pet.

This was terrible, there was a previous resident hawk which visits everyday even though its wild, can't imagine why, oh maybe its to do with it being fed a live mouse! Good to see live sacrifices are alive and well, you can see it being held up on the falconry glove!

Eggs of the red eyed tree frog

This previously rehabilitated squirrel was hanging around outside the cage we thought because it was friends with the occupant squirrel but apparently since its release it's just been missing the opportunity to beat it up.

Saba the loveliest dog ever

On our last day we decided to have a surf lesson and met up with an extremely red eyed rasta man who took us for our lesson- it was great fun although the waves were a little big for our abilities!
