On day 3 of the bear trek we took a break from bear viewing and headed out into Uyak bay.
Spot the tufted puffin - weirdly americans call all bird colonies rookeries. This is a black legged kittiwake colony. Harry our guide said these birds hadn't successfully bred for 2 years now.
Tufted and horned puffins, its unusual to see the two species together. It could have been a safety in numbers thing as they were having a bathing and preening session. They could have been getting ready to leave the colony for the open sea.
Alan was a great photographer and took some great pics - much to Ralph's delight Alan also enjoyed discussing the state of politics in the US and UK
It was real pretty
What a hero
Alan still at it
More puffin action
More prettiness
Harbour seals
Fi knitted this hat on the ferry
A sea otter - cute but not overly keen on boats
This is a fin whale -the second largest after the blue whale. There were several of them quite close to shore. They too were in the bay to eat the salmon.
Larsen bay mercantile - or cornershop as we call it
Larsen bay was basically just a cannery, but it was pretty cool
The shelves were pretty stacked considering the remote location
