Neither teenage or mutant

Our next stop in Yucatan was Tulum, a very touristy town on the east coast famous for its scenic ruins right on the coast.  A short collectivo (minbus) ride away at Akumal there is a shallow bay perfect for snorkelling with tropical fish and green and loggerhead turtles.

Green turtles grazing on sea grass, they come up to the surface every few minutes for a breath and don't seem bothered by lots of gawking humans snorkelling around them (all of which, to our relief, kept a respectful distance).  We were admiring the Remoras which had attached themselves to the underside of the turtles hitching a ride like they also do on sharks and rays, getting dragged along and eating scraps that come out of turtle, ray or sharks mouths.  Then we were admiring Remoras that were snuggling up to us (I could see one under Ralph and he could see one under me), but then they got a bit persistent and one tried to suck on to my shin and even worse for Ralph....one went up his shorts (but to his dismay didn't stay there)! They continued to pursue and kept trying to attach which spooked us out so much that we eventually sped off at high speed - back to dry land.

The turtles were far more relaxed about the presence of sharksuckers

The bay at Akumal, the turtles were not far out at all, about where you can see the boats in the picture.

We were very excited about checking into Hotel Latino with its pool so we could get a few lengths in to counteract the days of sitting on the bus.

However they very cleverly only show one corner of the pool so you can't see how small it is, a length was about as long as me!
